The end of the academic year is very near and also the end of our language assisstants´stay in Spain.

I´d like to thank Emmie for all the help and contribution to our bilingual program, and Adam, for making students be eager to speak English and know more about the American culture and lifestyle.

Thank you also for the hours of funny conversation in the car on our way to work.

BULLYING

Bullying is a general problem in schools nowadays. Many students from secondary schools have been bullied in the playground. Others were bothered by bullies in the classrooms, corridors or toilets, and many others were attacked outside school.
But, why do children want to hurt other children?
Why do they feel stronger or more powerful than the rest of students?
How can teachers and parents stop them?
How can you stop someone who is bothering you?

There is also another way of bullying through the web:CYBER-BULLYING. It consists of using the web and the new technologies to create a space (blog, forum, etc...) where people can hurt somebody and ridicule him. Back to school. Now it´s time to get up early, do homework, study and why not...? have fun!

What about your holidays?

I ´d like to know something about your summer holidays. Did you go to the beach? Did you travel to any far away city? Did you meet someone interesting?

Write some words in English and tell everybody how nice your summer holidays were.

"In summer I went to the beach in Fuengirola. I went with my family and we stayed in a nice apartment. My children enjoyed a lot there. We found lots of jellyfish in the sea. They are dangerous and you can´t go into the water.
Later I spent two weeks in a small village in the north of Spain, in Soria. My husband´s father has got a house there and we meet there every summer. This year we went to swim to a small river but the water was extremely cold. There the weather is not as hot as in the south. We lit the fire every night in August!"

Do you know what EASTER EGGS are?
Do you know Easter Bunny?
In Britain people celebrate the Holy Week in a different way. They celebrate Palm Sunday (domingo de ramos), Good Friday (viernes santo) and, especially children, Easter Sunday (domingo de Resurrección).
Today on Easter Sunday children wake up to find that the Easter Bunny has left them baskets of candy. He has also hidden the eggs that they decorated earlier that week. Children hunt for the eggs all around the house. Neighborhoods and organizations hold Easter egg hunts, and the child who finds the most eggs wins a prize.

And what about Spanish Holy Week?
As you all know the Holy Week is especially important and relevant in the south of Spain. We live it in a different way and it´s difficult to explain it in a few words. If you want to feel something of the emotion of whatching a cofradía in the streets of our Andalusia, have a look at this video of EL CACHORRO in Sevilla.

WHAT IS ST PATRICK'S DAY?
Saint Patrick's day is on March 17th, a lot of people celebrate this holiday all around the world. Some of the thousands that celebrate the holiday go to church, having parties, or just wearing GREEN. Some places in the United States of America have parades to celebrate the holiday. People have been celebrating St. Patrick's Day for almost 1600 years now.
St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and he is one of Christianity´s most widely known figures. But for all his celebrity, his life remains somewhat of a mystery. Many of the stories traditionally associated with St. Patrick, including the famous account of his banishing all the snakes from Ireland, are false, the products of hundreds of years of exaggerated storytelling.
